6 feet by 32 inches. materials: wax(petroleum base) 13 candles, 10 wholes in the canvas, wooden structure, tints, lights, mirrors, and acetate portrait photographs, lable maker machine, label tape.
This is a process art piece, I used a label maker to pray “our father” until the canvas was completely covered. I layed a very thin layer of wax on the canvas, lit the 13 candles for 13 seconds, and then blew them out.
The number 13 represents the titles of the Colombian constitution, specifically the article referring to protection to every person in Colombian territory. There is a box like structure in the back of the canvas, that is tilted like a podium. There are dimmed lights behind the piece inside the box like structure. In the canvas, there are 10 holes, these holes have either a small mirror, or a self portrait.

The Medallion piece is a process installation with many elements. A projector is attempting to display an image on the white wall in the back. The medallions, however, are strategically placed to obstruct the image from being displayed. In this way, the act of kidnapping is taking place in the piece. The video, is synchronized with Colombia’s national anthem, which can be heard whispering in the background. The altered photographs being projected change with each note of the trumpet. The medallions hang in a V shape from the ceiling with hemp– an allusion to the drug trade — and wire –which is often used to tie kidnapping victims’ hands and feet.
The performance of this piece is vital. The act of kidnapping is one of the most violent acts imaginable. It is taking something away from someome. Giving a gift, on the other hand, is the opposite of kidnapping. Thus, I am giving away all of the medallions. I am giving them to individuals in the gallery and on the street, as well as mailing them to strangers. They are given away in a calculated manner that depends on the length of the show, and is meant to spread knowledge and awareness of the problems that plague my country. In the end — once all the medallions are given away — the final image of the video will be revealed, and only the strings will remain.
The first half of this piece took place in Miami, FL. 187 medallions were given out and later replaced. The second half of this piece will be finished in NY in the coming months.

Each medallion has an different image of a person who has been kidnapped in Colombia on one side. On the other, there is a quote that reads : “freedom and order” (the Colombian equivalent of America’s “In God we Trust”). The medium of this piece is a mixture of clay, porcelain, sand, tint, soil, hair. Each medallion was made out of clay.

Yes. Yes, that is my hair. My hair in a ponytail.
The canvas is supported by a wooden structure. The words “how much is enough” are repeated covering the canvas. These words are covered by a small layer of petroleum transparent wax. Tear-like drops hang from the canvas.
White tissue paper displaying the faces of the the missing descends from the ponytail in the middle of the canvas. The Tissue paper tape is about 15 feet long and it moves freely with the wind. Some people step on it; others respect it.
